How does BananaRat Studio comply with the EU AI Act?

What the EU AI Act requires for AI-generated content

Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires that AI systems generating synthetic audio, video, or text used for creative purposes must mark their output as AI-generated in a way that is machine-readable and human-perceivable. The obligation applies to "general-purpose AI systems" and AI systems "interacting with natural persons." The effective date for these provisions is 2 August 2026.

BananaRat Studio generates AI-assisted music, audio, and lyrics. We treat Art 50 compliance as a core product requirement, not an afterthought.

How AuthorMark satisfies Art 50

Every song produced by BananaRat Studio receives AuthorMark — a dual-layer provenance embedding:

• C2PA manifest (machine-readable): A cryptographically signed Content Credentials manifest embedded in the MP3 file per the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) specification. The manifest declares that the content was produced by an AI system, identifies the platform, and records the composition timestamp. Any C2PA-compatible verifier — including Adobe Content Authenticity, Truepic, or the open-source c2pa-rs library — can read and verify this manifest.
• AudioSeal watermark (perceptually-transparent): A neural watermark from Meta Research's AudioSeal embedded at the waveform level. It is inaudible under normal listening conditions but detectable by AudioSeal-compatible detectors. This satisfies the "machine-detectable" criterion independent of the file container.

Together these satisfy both the audible disclosure requirement (the AuthorMark status is shown in the Studio UI and available in the Evidence Bundle) and the machine-readable requirement (C2PA + AudioSeal).

Visible disclosure in the UI

Every song in BananaRat Studio displays an AuthorMark status indicator — either "AuthorMark attached" or "AuthorMark pending" — in the My Songs interface. The Evidence Bundle PDF includes a disclosure statement. The platform does not hide or obscure the AI-generated nature of the content.

When this applies to you

If you are an EU resident and you publish AI-generated songs publicly (on streaming platforms, social media, or in broadcast), you have your own disclosure obligations under Art 50. The C2PA manifest embedded by AuthorMark supports your compliance — C2PA credentials are preserved through standard file distribution channels. AudioSeal survives typical MP3 re-encoding.
